“When we can acknowledge that we are internally suffering, we can “prevent” exploding outwardly, and causing another to suffer, which in turn adds more pain to our own suffering.”

If you isolate yourself and try to hold in your feelings of pain , you will just add more time and pain to your suffering, and  you will end up exploding over something trivial that does not pertain to your pain.

Even if you cannot understand how the negative feelings came to be a part of your emotional frame of mind, you must still acknowledge that you are feeling them,in order to prevent a negative outburst…because when you express your pain through love for not wanting to hurt yourself or another, your pain is heard in love and  healing can begin.
